Smoothbeam laser therapy is an effective way to treat acne on your face and back. This gentle, safe treatment uses a laser to target overactive sebaceous glands in your skin - the root cause of acne. You will then start to see a reduction in the acne bumps and oiliness on your skin.
Topical anesthetic cream is routinely applied on the skin an hour before the treatment. You will feel a light prick and a spray of coolant on the skin during treatment. This coolant will protect the skin from burn or blister.
Mild redness after the treatment will subside within an hour. Very occasionally, individuals may develop light brown laser marks that would fade with time.
There is no downtime and you can resume your activities immediately after treatment.
On average it takes about 10-20 minutes to treat any given area.
In most cases, 5 treatments may be required for optimal results. The treatments are usually spaced 4 weeks apart.
It has been shown in studies on acne of the back that the skin may remain clear of acne for up to 6 months. It is important to take care of your skin even after the acne has cleared.
Smoothbeam laser heats up the old collagen in the scars and stimulate production of new collagen. This new collagen in turn improves the appearance of the depressed acne scars by reducing the depth and softening the edges of the scars.
The number of treatments depends on the anatomical location of the scars, their depth and the desired results. In most cases, at least 5 - 6 treatments may be required for noticeable improvement. Treatment may be performed every 3 to 5 weeks. Maximum improvements may only be seen 6 months after a series of treatment.
